In March of 2014, I decided I wanted to start a kids triathlon team. My first phone call came in – I had a team- a team of one. Jack became the first TriMonster. Jack is now in his third season as a TriMonster and is helping to mentor some of his younger teammates. He can be called upon to help a new or inexperienced teammate during practice and on race day, displaying great leadership. Most kids have one discipline that they favor in the sport, Jacks in the bike, and that is where he excels. He has no fear on his bike and has perfected the flying dismount. Jack has also learned the importance of setting small goals for himself. I will never forget after one triathlon, I asked him what he was the most proud of. With a huge smile on his face he replied, “I passed six people on the bike”! He has learned how to find success in every race! As a coach, I am proud of how Jack has grown from an unfocused boy into a determined young man perfecting his sport.
